Mr. Davis, a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941, discusses his early chaildhood as a Navy junior, his education, and his experiences at the U.S. Naval Academy. Emphasized in the interview is duty on the USS REID , attack on Pearl Harbor, training on submarines at New London, Conn., and assignment to the USS SALMON . The five war patrols of the SALMON are described in detail as is duty as commanding officer of the S-18. Also discussed is the background of Davis' resignation of his Navy commission in 1946 and his civilian career subsequent to his resignation.

Louis Poisson Davis, Jr., son of Captain Louis Poisson Davis (1883-1978), was a 1941 graduate of the Naval Academy. He saw action in the Pacific during World War II beginning at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS Reid. In August 1942, he transferred to submarines and made war patrols aboard the USS Salmon. He later took command of his own submarine, the S-18. Following a disagreement with his squadron commander, Davis was relieved of command and resigned from the Navy in 1945.
